Common questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your Advanced Thyroid Blood Test.
What does the Advanced Thyroid test include?
This panel measures TSH, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies (TPO and TG). It goes beyond a basic thyroid check to detect autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease.
How is this different from the standard thyroid test?
The standard thyroid test measures TSH, FT4 and FT3. This advanced panel adds thyroid antibodies, which can detect autoimmune thyroid disease even when hormone levels still look normal. This is important because antibodies can be present for years before thyroid function actually changes.
When should I take this test?
Collect your sample between 6 and 10 AM when thyroid hormones are most stable. If you take thyroid medication (levothyroxine), take it as normal but delay liothyronine until after the sample. Avoid biotin supplements for 48 hours before testing.
Who should consider this test?
Anyone with a family history of thyroid disease, those with symptoms suggesting thyroid dysfunction (fatigue, weight changes, hair loss), women with fertility concerns, or anyone whose standard thyroid test was borderline and wants a more detailed assessment.
How will I receive my results?
Secure online results with a GP-written explanation from Brooksby Medical in 2 to 3 working days.
