Doctor's Overview
The majority of your results are reassuringly normal. Your thyroid function, long-term blood sugar control, and bone profile are all entirely normal. I'd like to draw your attention to your vitamin D level, which is in the insufficient range — very common in the UK, especially over winter…
— Dr James Coleman, BSc, MB ChB, MRCGP
Thyroid Function All in range
TSH
2.1 mIU/LRef: 0.27 – 4.20
Free T4
16.2 pmol/LRef: 12.0 – 22.0
Free T3
5.1 pmol/LRef: 3.1 – 6.8
Vitamins & Nutrition 1 out of range
Vitamin D
42 nmol/LRef: ≥ 50 (sufficient)
Vitamin B12
389 pmol/LRef: 197 – 771
Ferritin
89 µg/LRef: 30 – 400
Doctor's Note — Vitamin D
Your vitamin D is 42 nmol/L, which falls in the insufficient range. I'd recommend supplementing with 2,000–4,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily, ideally taken with a meal containing fat for better absorption. We can recheck this in 3 months to confirm improvement.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before ordering your test.

How accurate are the results?

All samples are processed in UKAS-accredited UK laboratories — the same accreditation standard used by NHS hospitals. Your results are then personally reviewed by a qualified GP before your report is issued.

Can I share my results with my GP?

Absolutely. Your report is designed to be shared with any healthcare professional. Many of our patients bring their Brooksby Medical report to their NHS GP appointment for further discussion and follow-up.

What happens if something abnormal is found?

Your doctor-written report will flag any abnormal results with clear explanations and recommended next steps. For significantly abnormal results, we'll contact you directly to discuss and advise on appropriate follow-up with your GP.

Who writes the reports?

Every report is written by Dr James Coleman, an experienced, GMC-registered GP — not generated by AI or written by non-medical staff. This is a core part of what makes Brooksby Medical different from other private testing services.

How long do results take?

Most reports are ready within 2–3 working days of your sample arriving at the lab. You will receive an email notification when your report is ready to view in your secure portal.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

It depends on the test. Some profiles — particularly those including cholesterol or blood glucose — benefit from a fasting sample. Your order confirmation email will clearly state whether fasting is required and for how long.

What is the difference between venous and finger-prick?

Finger-prick tests use a small lancet to collect a few drops of blood at home — quick and convenient. Venous tests are drawn from a vein by a nurse or phlebotomist and provide a larger sample, which is required for some of our more comprehensive profiles. Each test page clearly states which collection method is needed.
