How it works, from order to outcome
A clinically-led testing service built around the one thing that matters most — knowing exactly where you stand. Five simple steps, a doctor-written report, and a real GP on the call to talk it through.
Order your test
Choose online in minutes. Your kit is dispatched and on its way to you.
Collect your sample
Finger-prick at home or nurse-drawn venous sample, whichever suits you.
Post it back
Drop your pre-paid, tracked envelope in any postbox. We take it from there.
Your doctor-written report
Reviewed by a practising doctor. Delivered to your secure portal within 2–3 working days.
Optional follow-up
If anything in your report needs discussing, you can request a follow-up with our doctor from your account — free, and entirely optional.
You're never left wondering where your sample is.
From the moment your kit is dispatched to the second your report is ready, we send you a short SMS at every stage. No app to download. No inbox digging. Just clear, timely confirmation that everything is moving as it should.
SMS updates throughout
A short message at every meaningful step — dispatch, lab receipt, results ready. You always know what's happening.
Doctor-written reports
Not an automated print-out. A practising doctor reviews your results in context and writes plain-English guidance on what matters.

Dr James Coleman
“Most people don't need more numbers. They need someone who'll actually look at them. That's the whole point of Brooksby. A real doctor reads every test, writes your report, and talks you through it on a call.”
Common Questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your test.
How accurate are the results?
All samples are processed in UKAS-accredited UK laboratories — the same accreditation standard used by NHS hospitals. Your results are then personally reviewed by a qualified GP before your report is issued.
Can I share my results with my GP?
Absolutely. Your report is designed to be shared with any healthcare professional. Many of our patients bring their Brooksby Medical report to their NHS GP appointment for further discussion and follow-up.
What happens if something abnormal is found?
Your doctor-written report will flag any abnormal results with clear explanations and recommended next steps. For significantly abnormal results, we'll contact you directly to discuss and advise on appropriate follow-up with your GP.
Who writes the reports?
Every report is written by Dr James Coleman, an experienced, GMC-registered GP — not generated by AI or written by non-medical staff. This is a core part of what makes Brooksby Medical different from other private testing services.
How long do results take?
Most reports are ready within 2–3 working days of your sample arriving at the lab. You will receive an email notification when your report is ready to view in your secure portal.
Do I need to fast before my blood test?
It depends on the test. Some profiles — particularly those including cholesterol or blood glucose — benefit from a fasting sample. Your order confirmation email will clearly state whether fasting is required and for how long.
What is the difference between venous and finger-prick?
Finger-prick tests use a small lancet to collect a few drops of blood at home — quick and convenient. Venous tests are drawn from a vein by a nurse or phlebotomist and provide a larger sample, which is required for some of our more comprehensive profiles. Each test page clearly states which collection method is needed.
