Coeliac Disease Antibody Blood Test
Persistent bloating, digestive discomfort, or unexplained fatigue can sometimes point to an autoimmune reaction to gluten. This blood test screens for Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) antibodies — the primary marker for coeliac disease — helping you get clear answers and take informed next steps.

Common questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your Coeliac Disease Antibody Blood Test.
What does the coeliac antibody test measure?
This test measures Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) antibodies in your blood. These antibodies are produced when someone with coeliac disease eats gluten. A raised level strongly suggests an autoimmune reaction to gluten in the gut.
Who should consider this test?
This test is useful for:
Anyone with persistent bloating, diarrhoea or abdominal discomfort
Those with unexplained fatigue or iron deficiency anaemia
People with a family history of coeliac disease
Anyone experiencing unexplained weight loss or mouth ulcers
Do I need to be eating gluten before this test?
Yes. You must be eating gluten regularly for at least 6 weeks before the test. If you have already removed gluten from your diet, the antibodies may have dropped to normal levels and the test could give a falsely reassuring result. Speak to your GP before reintroducing gluten if you have concerns.
Can this test diagnose coeliac disease?
A strongly positive tTG result makes coeliac disease very likely, but a formal diagnosis usually requires confirmation with a gut biopsy arranged through your GP. A negative result makes coeliac disease unlikely but does not completely rule it out in certain cases.
How will I receive my results?
Secure online results with a GP-written explanation from Brooksby Medical in 2 to 3 working days.
