Common questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your Testosterone Therapy Monitoring Panel.
What does this panel monitor?
This panel tracks your testosterone levels (total and free) alongside essential safety markers: oestradiol (to check for excess conversion), prolactin, SHBG, PSA (prostate health), full blood count (to check haematocrit) and liver function.
Why do I need monitoring on TRT?
Testosterone therapy can affect your red blood cell count (raising haematocrit, which thickens blood), PSA levels, liver function and oestrogen balance. Regular monitoring ensures your therapy remains safe and effective, and helps your prescriber adjust dosing.
How often should I have this test?
Most TRT protocols recommend blood tests every 3 to 6 months during the first year, then every 6 to 12 months once stable. Your prescribing clinician will advise on the best schedule for your protocol.
Do I need to fast or time the test?
Follow these steps:
Morning sample between 6 and 10 AM
No vigorous exercise or cycling for 48 hours (affects PSA)
Avoid ejaculation for 48 hours (affects PSA)
If using injectable testosterone, test at the trough (just before your next injection)
If using gel/cream, test before applying your morning dose
How will I receive my results?
Secure online results with a GP-written explanation from Brooksby Medical in 2 to 3 working days.
